Ichesa AMCOS coffee processing unit was built in 2012 and currently serves about 179 producers in the surrounding villages, each of whom own 1 hectare of land or less, on average. Due to the small average farm size (which makes up 90%+ of the country's production), many producers are members of AMCOS, Agricultural Marketing Cooperative Societies, which share centralized cherry delivery and processing stations.  With its relatively close proximity to Ethiopia, and its shared border with Kenya, some of Tanzania’s population has had a long history, culture and relationship with coffee.  In recent years, Tanzania has come into its own through large steps in quality and consistency of coffee production.
